Home Inspections

When you’re looking for Portland, Falmouth and Scarborough Real Estate, please don’t forget to include a home inspection in your home buying checklist.

Getting Your Home Inspected

When a contract is signed between a buyer and a seller, it’s time to get an inspection done. The home inspector is typically hired by the buyer. This inspection will look for things that could become a costly problem for the buyer.

An inspector will check the integrity of the building structure including walls, floor and ceiling. Outside they look at the driveway and sidewalks, and check over things like the grading and drainage in the yard, and they look over the roof, attic, and ventilation.

They check out the plumbing and electrical system, and they even look at large appliances like the dishwasher. If something is defective and it poses a safety or financial issue, it will be addressed in the home inspection report.

Don’t make the mistake of foregoing inspection if you’re buying a new house. If you’re buying a home you need to have an inspection done. Mistakes can be made by builders and contractors. You could overlook a costly problem like a drainage issue and end up paying for it.
